The purpose of Seychelles Breweries connects to Diageo’s larger purpose: Celebrating Life, Every Day, Everywhere
Our ambition is to continually be the best performing, most trusted and respected consumer products company in Seychelles. To achieve that ambition, we must:
Sustain Quality Growth by building brand equity, innovating sustainably with next generation brands and enabling a positive policy environment.
Embed Everyday Efficiency through simplicity and speed, data-led approaches with analytics and automation, and focusing resources on delighting consumers and customers.
Invest Smartly to grow and develop our people, build capabilities in tech, data and ecommerce, and promote the right brands in the right ways for maximum return.
Promote Positive Drinking to change the way the world drinks for the better, to be a leader in the industry for the reduction of underage drinking, drink driving and binge drinking, and to empower our people and brands to advocate for moderation.
Champion Inclusion and Diversity to create the most inclusive and diverse culture that ensures all our people thrive, and to shape market-leading policies and practices.
Pioneer Grain-to-Glass Sustainability, to preserve the natural resources on which our long-term success depends, and positively impact the communities in which we live, work, source and sell.
Seychelles Breweries Foundation
The launch of the Seychelles Breweries Foundation in 2022 adds a new chapter to our long-running tradition of corporate citizenship across the islands.
An initial commitment of SCR 2 million was earmarked for the foundation at launch. Rather than entertain ad hoc requests, the foundation’s framework will provide for a twice-yearly call for project proposals from non-governmental organizations and other entities, and submissions will be evaluated by a voluntary selection team of SBL employees.
Water is the basis of life, and without water Seybrew would simply not exist. It is therefore the brewery’s duty to consume less and conserve this precious resource in every way possible. Seychelles Breweries has committed that by 2030, every drink it produces will use 30 percent less water than today.
The brewery has also supported 15 farmers in the water-stressed areas of Val D’en Dor, Baie Lazare, Anse Royale and Pointe Au Sel, with the installation of piping and fittings for drip irrigation. Water storage vessels recycled from the plant have also been donated to farms under this programme.
Reducing the carbon footprint of operations is also a key platform of the brewery’s sustainability strategy. Renewable energies will form part of this conversion as the use of solar panels has already been incorporated for some aspects of the plant.
Reducing carbon emissions and sustainable production within our factory is important, but so is protecting Seychelles’ unique natural environment. Seybrew’s partnership with the Marine Conservation Society of Seychelles (MCSS) for the adoption of the beach at Anse Bazarka, Takamaka in the south of Mahé sees employees engage in the monitoring and protection of sea turtles that nest on the beach. The brewery has also collaborated with MCSS in tree-planting activities to prevent coastal erosion and extend nesting space for the turtles.
As a company that produces alcoholic drinks, Seychelles Breweries recognises its responsibility to reduce alcohol-related harm: unhealthy lifestyles of binge drinking and drink driving do not bode well for the company’s bottom line, let alone for the good of the community.
Seychelles Breweries and its parent company Diageo have continually aimed to improve the way the world drinks by encouraging moderation and tackling underage drinking.
One such programme is the Smashed Project, with its aim to prevent early alcohol use amongst young people in a safe and motivational learning environment. Smashed enables participants to explore the dangers and consequences of underage drinking and equips them with the facts, skills and confidence to make responsible choices and develop a responsible attitude towards alcohol. Seychelles Breweries has been working with the Ministry of Education to bring this programme to secondary schools across Seychelles, reaching thousands of students and counting.
